| I’m Rick Kinnaird.
I’m a writer of fictional adventure and travel,
that means I write stories about things that never happened
in places I’ve never been. This way facts don’t
get in the way.
Many of my stories involve characters based on people
and friends I’ve known, only I’ve extended
their personas. Hank is such a character. He appears
in a novel I am writing called Blink Oracle
and serves as a muse, lawyer (in the sense of Hunter
S. Thompson’s sidekick in Fear and Loathing
in Las Vegas being a lawyer) and doer (like Dean
is in On the Road by Jack Kerouac.)
I have a blog, Letters
to Hank, where I send random thoughts to Hank and
it is must reading because it is the only place on the
Internet where a middle-aged white balding male complains
about the state of the world and gives insight into
how to fix it (the state of the world, not the middle-aged
balding issue.)
If you would like to be forewarned when a new blog entry
is posted, please sign up for my newsletter (see box
on left).
I am working on the GAN (Great American Novel). Actually,
I have a series I’m working on called The
Burning Man Chronicles which includes The Easter
Island Caper, published in abbreviated form in
The Black Rock Gazette under the name Head
Games, and Blink Oracle, of which a subset
was self-published as a gift to my friends at Burning
Man in 2005.
I also have a plan for Total World Domination (TWD)
that is based on the cornerstone of my empire Half
Vast Enterprises which consists of two weekly rental
houses – one on Hatteras Island, North Carolina
and the other outside of Bar Harbor, Maine (on the water
behind Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park).
My TWD plan is to buy all the land in between. I have
a standing offer to buy Manhattan from the current natives
for ten times what they originally paid for it.
There’s a lot to do however before the TWD plan
goes into effect. I have to finish the novel(s). I need
to do some kite surfing and fishing. There’s more
bitchin’ on the blog. There’s the work with
my wife’s design business www.shelbykinnaird.com.
I’ve been interested in kites and kiteflying for
my adult life and in the history of ancient places since
I was a kid. That means more design and flying and visiting
and reading and photographing and what not.
There’s a lot to do.
Hand me the Tivo clicker.
