Day 738 Monday January 14, 2019 853 Days to Go
Years ago I tried to win a radio contest wherein you had to guess the names of three celebrities that supposedly robbed a bank. I went to the library and went through six months of old People magazines. What I discovered was that People would have these running storylines through the issues. For example they would have a picture of a movie star who had just signed or begun work on a new movie. Then they’d show the movie filming wrapping up, then the star would be at the red carpet opening, then they’d report the box office take. It was basically the same story over and over but with a little bit of progress each issue.
I seem to be seeing the same thing going on with the investigations into the president and his family and cronies. We are nearing the end game – I think. But we’ve seen so many bits advancing the storylines. Now we have the reporting in the press that the president seems to be highly influenced by Putin and the Russians. Huh? Who would have guessed that? Well, any living breathing primate with a functioning cerebellum would be my answer. According to one paper there were 101 contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians. Typical campaign contacts? Zero.
Now we have some Republicans saying they think Steve King should be censured or something because he made racist, white supremacist, neo-nazi statements. Once again I say, “Huh?” Given the timeline of Steve King making such statements originally to when these folks woke up to the fact that he was making them I think we can safely predict that they’ll find their spines and think about doing something in thirty or forty years. These things take time. You wouldn’t want to rush hastily into anything.
Another article of interest is the comatose woman who had a baby. Besides the intriguing question of “Who’s your daddy?” there’s also the question of what kind of people were working in that facility to not know she was pregnant? I’m willing to bet that she knew Trump was cavorting with the Russians and looks guilty as hell. If you don’t believe me, ask her.
The other thing that is going on right now are the commentators and reports about the shutdown. I love the folks who say both sides are to blame. Really? What would you do? Let’s negotiate over a lie with a narcissistic child that is throwing a temper tantrum. Your move. Fortunately, for the rest of us we not only have an adult in the room but a mother of five and a grandmother of nine. I think she knows how to handle petulant children.
One thing is you don’t give into them. Now if that old man in the Senate would realize that, but he’s still raiding the cookie jar. Trump is appointing his wife’s sister’s husband to a big financial position. A position he might actually be somewhat qualified to do. The question then is, “If so why hide the family connection like they did?”
Ah me.
In other news, Bryce Holliwell reports that the indoor flying competition wrapped up yesterday and many watched on the livestream, which put them at a distinct advantage as they had commentators that told them what was going on. Even though it was a series of competitions all the competitors were very friendly toward each other and the crowd.
Holliwell reports that in the very last competition, “The Best Trick” comp, a man entered who had not been seen in any other comp. He was unlike any of the other competitors and more like the age and physique of Mr. Holliwell. That is to say he was over 35 and did seem to have an ounce or two of cellulose. Right on.
Alex and Sophie, team Chae, did well in that they finished all their routines; this despite being their first time and a huge Bo Jackson like moment. (Remember Bo’s throw from the warning track in center field? A guy was on third, Bo caught the fly ball and threw it to the catcher who got the guy out? The guy couldn’t believe it. It had to be a perfect throw at high speed. Bo’s team lost the game but the headline the next day was “THE THROW.” No? You don’t remember? Watch the ESPN 30 for 30 on Bo.)
In the last compulsory round of the first day Alex’s zipper unzipped down his front. This severely changes the aerodynamics. He tried to zip it but that causes you to slow down and even fall. He abandoned that plan and kept flying. It brought the house down. One person yelled from the back of the viewing area, “KEEP FLYING1” and he did, finishing the routine to thunderous applause and commentary from the streaming guys, which they continued to comment on into the next day. Quite an accomplishment.
Ever onward. Damn the torpedos,
