71 Days until the election on November 3rd

151 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

While the rest of you have been lollygagging around and whining about our country I’ve been doing important things. It’s hard to know where to begin, but let me start with this.

It’s a cover of a book that was part of the out of print kite books that I bought a while back. This book entitled The Kite, features a picture done by someone who has never flown a kite. This is your typical graphic artist representation of a kite. It features a young boy joyously running while holding a piece of string in his hands. The idea is that he is flying the kite, which he is not. The old man is. Also, they are running, through a field of high grass. Hope it isn’t chigger season. There’s an older boy standing to one side scratching his head, and well he might. If it’s not from the chiggers and ticks then he might be wondering how this kite would ever fly.

The Kite

First off the kite is bridled incorrectly. It’s attached to the backside of the kite, not the front. You want the sticks on the back to support the sail. If this kite were to ever get in the air the cover would blow back into a big curved sheet. Also, the bridle stings are attached to the horizontal cross spar not the vertical one. This means you are not controlling the angle of the kite into the wind, which means, if the kite flies at all it will buck and dump the wind that is being collected on its surface. It also means that the kite will most likely not be stable side to side as the surface area is not evenly divided but rather one big blob. If a little pressure builds on one side of the surface the kite will dive off to the other side.

Yeah, this is the typical graphic artist rendering of a kite. It makes me wonder, “If that get this wrong what else do they botch?”

Bob’s

Then we got on the road, noodled up to Massachusettes where we visited with daughter Katie, socially distanced. After spending the night nearby we continued on to Maine, stopping in Kittery and trying out Bob’s Clam Shack. It’s famous. It’s a landmark. It’s been on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Blah blah blah. It’s okay, but certainly not worth the money. Our meal: two lobster rolls with fries and two sodas was fifty five bucks. For that price they ought to knock it out of the park. Rather it was a kind of blooper over the nearby fence. The fries were okay, but not cooked in hot enough oil. Slightly crispy, not quite mealy, but nothing to make you stop and say, “Oh my god!”

Waddah Want for $55?

The lobster rolls had lobster in them. Yeah, the lobster rolls had lobster in them. It was okay.

We stopped at the visitor’s center where I had my first moose siting of the season.

MOOSE!

On the way to the house we pulled off the first Freeport exit to see if Cindy’s was still in business. It’s a ramshackle little place with good food – when they are open. They used to be closed on Sunday now it turns out to be Tuesday, the day we came by. The easiest way to find Cindy’s is to pull off the first Freeport exit, if you see the big indian on the right, Cindy’s is down on the left a little further than you think. The place looks like it was cleaned up a bit. Maybe the crazy guy who owned it sold out, which would explain the day closure change. The old guy at Cindy’s was a Seventh-day Adventist so Cindy’s used to always be closed on SATURDAY, our normal travel-to-Maine day. (That-you Shelby for the correction.)

Before

We arrived at the house and assessed the situation. Ocean side needs work. Tide still goes in and out. Situation normal. We took most of the solar panels off the roof and stacked them on the deck. I was surprised how light they were.

Solar Panels under wraps & Picnic Table

The picnic table was hauled into service as a staging platform and Scott came by and dropped off scaffolding, dean started scraping and bitching. Well, he was bitching long before he started scraping. I went for supplies.

Scraping

All of a sudden dean said, “Rain is coming in five minutes we’ve got to get this stuff inside.” The app was right on target and we got treated to a rainbow.

Rainbow and Tide

Scott dropped off scaffolding  dean climbed and caulked. I supervised.  (From the ground, “Missed a spot.”)

Scaffolding

The far corner turns out to be higher than it appears.

The Upper Corner

“Hey look Ma!”

I Can Reach It

There’s more, but time does not permit …

In other news, the new post master general testified to Congress and we were all mistaken. He is an innocent lamb, carrying out the plan of the previous Post Master General. The taking sorting machines out of service was because of excess capacity. The slowdown was due to Covid, and he’s never talked to Trump about any of this.

The fact that the drop off in mail service being directly related to the same time those sorting machines were taken out of service and that when Covid hit there was a brief blip has not been explained as far as I know. It is mere coincidence I guess that areas were black and brown people live has been hit the worst. Mere coincidence.

Meanwhile his wife is being considered, (or was she approved?), for the ambassadorship of Canada. If they allow her in, maybe they can show her how Canadian health care works, how they’ve worked to stop the spread of the virus, and how to deliver mail. All information her husband, the Republicans, and Donald Trump could use.

“Fuck fuck fuck,” Senator Tom Carper (D – Delaware) during USPS Zoom call thus either demonstrating that Democratic senators can be as clueless as Republican senators or that he thinks Mr. DeJoy is a lying sack of excrement.

Sure hope the House makes the Postmaster sweat. The Senate made him sound so nice

Those lobster rolls were pathetic…not what good Maine lobster rolls should look like!
