My friend dean sent me an article on the new Tom Cruise movie “Top Gun Maverick,” entitled “How Crazy-Ass Tom Cruise and ‘Top-Gun’ Saved America.” It essentially said, “thank god for a mindless enjoyable movie.”
Having seen the movie, I replied with this:
Having seen this movie, which niece Claire described as “The Greatest Movie Ever!!!”
I am glad we watched the original first.
There’s alot we forgot.
Okay, so there’s this weird guy at the beginning before Maverick starts.
He’s kind of puffy but he looks familiar.
“Is that Tom Cruise?”
He starts talking and we both say, “Yeah, that’s him. He looks – um, older. Puffier.”
The movie is full of predictable scenes, and having grown up a bit since the first one there’s many a time where I say, “Yoh eat. Right.” (That’s “Yeah right.” But spell checker thought it knew better so I’m leaving the Rocky version in “Yoh eat” as in what? “Yo Eat Me” I dunno.
Where was I?
The best part of the movie?
Afterwards going to look up Kelly MacGillis. And wonder why she wasn’t in it.
To quote her, “I’m old and I’m fat.” Which she later revised to say, “She’s age appropriate.”
The two best movies I have seen this is year, both on airplanes, are:
“Eiffel” it’s French with subtitles – and describes Mssr. Eiffel struggle to build his famous tower and the woman he almost had but couldn’t.
The other:
“The Writers Odyssey” it’s Chinese and the best, most imaginative movie I have seen in years. It describes a man’s search for his lost daughter and the interplay of a young novelist who reads his work in a streaming narrative and how his work interplays and intertwines with reality – altering it as it goes along.
You’re welcome.
Still watching WestWorld. Too chicken to go to a theater.
Sam and I were both pretty leery of going to the movie in person but we went to a very early Saturday afternoon showing with hardly anyone in the theater. Definitely worth it.
It just came back to the local theater (W. Carolina mountains) for a return engagement. Might go again.
