Day 694 Saturday December 1, 2018 897 Days to Go
George H. W. Bush died the other day. Papa Bush as he became known. Kindly, gentlemanly are words frequently used to describe him – I beg to differ.
He was the person who ran the racist despicable “Willie Horton” ads against Mike Dukakis (and he was led around by the nose by Roger Ailes.)
He did the dirty work for Nixon, delivering messages to a Maryland Senator to put pressure on his brother to stop the investigation into Agnew.
He’s the old man who felt young girls up from his wheelchair.
Please. Don’t try to tell me he’s nice and kindly. When push comes to shove, he’ll do the dirty.
I always got a kick out of the CIA sign on the Virginia side of the Potomac River as you went south on the GW Parkway – “The George Bush Center for Intelligence.” I never thought of him as very bright. Remember his being wowed by a bar code machine?
One of the presidential historians characterized him best I thought when he said that Bush was a guy who when he became president really didn’t know what he wanted to do. I know he had probably the best resume of any modern president, but he had no imagination. Of course, he looks like a friggin’ genius compared to his son or Trump, but that isn’t saying much.
