Egypt Field Report #2
November 15, 2019
Yesterday, we visited four pyramids: The Bent, The Black, The Unknown*, and The Red.
*Unknown in that they don’t know who it was a burial chamber for, or perhaps it was a cult pyramid, meaning after the pharaoh is dead a group hangs around praying to him.
If you want to visit these places, get in shape. Best to start with duckwalking, then going backward down a ramp for hundreds of feet while bent over.
Two photos: The alabaster bowl at the end of one of the pyramid climbs, and the stairs up to the first chamber in the Red Pyramid. this is after you’ve climbed backwards down a ramp while hunched over. You can get a moment’s respite at the bottom before going up the stairs. You don’t want to spend much time at this spot as the flies are attracted to the light. Once you get to the first chamber there is a free standing switch back staircase that goes up several stories and you get to crawl through a tunnel to another chamber.
Gotta go, bus leaves in 27 minutes.
