Day 1370 – Will Democracy Survive?

October 22, 2020 by Rick Kinnaird 1 Comment

Tuesday October 20, 2020

14 Days* until the election on November 3rd

94 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

*Finally revised

There are two major problems facing this country beyond Covid and Trump:

1- is the Democracy in Chains problem. Conservatives packing legislatures and courts. and then wanting to change the constitution to their advantage

2 – the problem that the majority of the population is, or will soon be, living in 16 states, That’s 32 Senators for the people and 68 for the rural right wing.

Put another way California has 2 senators and 40 million people; another 23 states combined have 40 million.

The question is “Will the democracy survive?”

I don’t think so, because it would require those rural areas to give up some of their power. I don’t see that happening.

The only way to do it would be if New York and California and perhaps the other 14 populous states refused to play along.

Let Wyoming and Kentucky fend for themselves. See how long they last.

It will be interesting to see if this woman gets on the Supreme Court how quickly the ACA will be abolished and how soon rural hospitals will vanish. Will those folks in rural America make the connection?

Back in the 30s FDR electrified rural America. Socialism!

So are grain subsidies, which those rural senators love. Socialism!

My Congressperson, Abigail Spanberger is working to get the internet to rural America.

Her opponent is yelling “tax and spend” and “we can’t afford to raise the minimum wage.”

It’s interesting to me that Republicans, who always spend more than Democrats and put the nation in deeper and deeper debt, blame Democrats for this, and they seem to get away with it.

The Department of Agriculture has a loan program for rural America. It works through local banks. Many of the conservatives on Fox and elsewhere think it’s the local banks helping the farmers, It’s not; it’s the Federal government. That loan program portfolio is one of the things the Republicans have been trying to get their hands on for their banking buddies. As far as I know they have failed. If it weren’t for that loan program as one official put it, “rural America would look like rural China.”

Socialism!

Call your senator and any other senator and for the sake of this country for the next fifty years tell them not to approve this woman with two years experience and a lifetime of wacky religious and social ideas to not be approved for the Supreme Court.

That is all.

Carry on.
