150 Babay!

    Election Day -12

65 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

It’s an old joke. I first saw it in a Kliban two panel. (Kliban used to do cartoons for the New Yorker. Many of them about cats.)

It goes like this.

First Panel – a couple is in bed (twin beds – very 1950s). He says, “What if I run out of customers?” Above both panels is the headline I made the topic of today’s screed – The Proctologist’s Nightmare.

Second Panel – She says, “Don’t worry. There will always be more assholes.”

And that pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it?

The only question might be what the first “it” above is referring to. Does it matter?

Rarely, do we have smart deliberate conversations. Most of the time it’s vague “well, I heard” kind of stuff. Now we have outlets and industries devoted to deceiving. Yes, one could argue that advertising is that, but at least advertising attempted to stress the positives of a product or service. It didn’t usually outright lie. Fib maybe. Now, we have “news” outlet that are mere repeaters and creators of lies. It has a whole new name – disinformation. They’ve even abandoned the “alternate facts” trope.

I saw a quote from Henry Wallace yesterday.

“The American fascists are most easily recognized by their deliberate perversion of truth and fact. Their newspapers and propaganda carefully cultivate every fissure of disunity .…They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective toward which all their deceit is directed is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.”

Vice President Henry A. Wallace, April 9, 1944.

He was a personal friend of my family and a great man. What he is quoted here as saying sums up what Nancy MacLean wrote a whole book about, called “Democracy in Chains.”

What we now call “conservatives” are really fascists. Their desire for power and their ruthlessness is unrelenting. They will wave the flag, embrace a religion, push a bigot or a demagogue – as long as they get their way. They have no interest in helping YOU. They want power so they can take more. They have convinced themselves that this is their right. Others are undeserving.

Our system of government favors their ability to rig the system in their favor.

While searching for the Wallace quote I saw two others of interest. One mentioned the fact that if we went to universal health care people cry and moan that it would cost $32 trillion. They fail to mention that the current system casts $49 trillion.

The other quote mentions that while people are concerned that Biden wants to raise taxes on people making over $400,000 they fail to realize that Trump has installed a tax plan to rase taxes on them twice – after he leaves office.
