Day 1349 – I was in Love at Seventeen

December 29, 2020 by Rick Kinnaird 2 Comments

Monday December 28, 2020 (3 days til New Years Eve)

Election Day -55

24 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

Her name was Francois Hardy (“Har-D”). She was wispily beautiful. She was a singer. She sang mainly in French. I had no idea what she was saying most of the time. There were bits I could translate: “I see you with others” “There” “I love you.” She modeled and she was an inspiration to Bob Dylan and Mic Jagger among others. She was part of the 60s French yé-yé singing phenomena.

From time to time I would see articles about her. Later on she got into astrology. A big turn-off for me. Oh well, I thought.

Yesterday, I was click-baited into looking at slides of “women who were muses for musicians.” There was Marianne Faithful, Courtney Love, Linda Eastman, Marilynn Monroe, Yoko Ono, and Francois Hardy!

The little blurb on Hardy mentioned that she had been in a coma for two years and awoke in 2018.

Be Still my beating heart

It made me wonder, “Had anyone been in a coma in 2018 and awoken in 2020?” Or what if they had gone to sleep in 2016 before the election and woken up now?

Can you imagine?

At first they’d come to, and probably see people in plastic shielded hospital beds with breathing tubes and monitors. There would be the sound of ventilators and pinging of monitors, green and blue little lights twinkling from devices. Maybe a CRT with patient information. They’d hear the groaning of people in pain. The silence of sorts, but the constant sucking in of air and letting out via the bellows of the ventilator.

They’d wonder what kind of surreal landscape they were in.

A team of gowned workers would rush in and administer to a patient a few beds away. ( “Why are they all covered from head to toe?” “Why the googles and the face masks?” “What is going on?” )

At some point, someone would spot you lying in the bed awake. Either a passing nurse or a monitor would have pinged that you were awake and an RN would be sent in to see and reset the monitor, then discover you, the patient, conscious. Imagine the conversation:

“You’re awake.”

“Yes.”

[Aside yells or speaks into a monitor “#43 is awake!”]

“What’s the big deal?”

Others flood into the room.

“You’ve been asleep for a long time.”

“Really? Like twenty hours?”

“Try four years.”

“No way. I’m thirsty. What time is it?”

“4:30 pm December 28th 2020.”

“You’re kidding right?”

“Not kidding.”

“When I was last awake Hillary was going to be President.”

“She lost.”

Actually very thought provoking. I had not looked at this from the perspective you present. She is a captivating woman.
