Yesterday, Kevin McCarthy defended himself by mispronouncing Qanon and then saying he doesn’t even know what it is. This is his standard defense. “If you can’t pronounce it you don’t know what it is. Am I right?” I hear Seth Meyers’ voice.
Let’s be clear, McCarthy gets some of the best intelligence in the world. Whether he reads it is another issue. But his party is seeped in this conspiracy stuff. He certainly knows what Qanon is, or at least the effect it has had on his party.
Then we get to Ms. Green’s speech before the vote to remove her from her committees. Something McCarthy could and should have done himself. Instead he opted to have the whole house vote. Only 11 Republicans voted to have her removed. There were 199 that voted to have the woman who wants to kill some of them remain in a position of power. Her speech was not an apology but a justification for what she had done. It was filled with falsehoods, which others have shown so I won’t bother.
In the past few days I have seen several Congresswomen get up an speak about the pain and trauma that the events of January 6th caused them. I had not thought about, or realized that trauma is cumulative. Ms Ocasio-Cortez spoke so eloquently and painfully about that. Cori Bush spoke too, but from a different perspective. As a black woman she spoke of wondering would the police protect her or shoot at her as they had done from behind trees sometime in her past.
I hope Ms Pelosi insists that the 199 former Republicans now have a Q placed after their names instead of an R.
They deserve it.
I am certainly confounded by the number of Republicans who stand by
Greene. What happened to the old Republican Party? Never in my 76 years have they been so mean. She should have been impeached just for the way she bullied the Hogg kid. Her excuse was that he was an adult and not a kid any more. Say what?
