Day 725 New Year’s Day January 1, 2018  866 Days to Go

Well, we made it!

And by “we” I mean Shelby and I were awake at midnight. Moments before I popped the cork on the Prosecco I had bought to celebrate Hillary’s victory in 2016, and like her campaign’s final moments the cork plopped out, made it half way across the deck, and landed ignominiously with a pathetic thud.

The early evening had annual wrap up of the year shows. Chris Mathews was even palatable. I think this was because he had a script he had to stick to and couldn’t go on for ten minutes supposedly asking someone their thoughts on a subject while really expressing his, and then, of course, because there’s no time left, cutting the person off. No, he read from cue cards that were various awards with three nominees in each category. I like “the most ignominious firing”  which went to Rex Tillerson who found out he was fired while sitting on the toilet. Or the most obsequious, which went to Sean Hannity, who in the clip they showed of him was at a Trump rally where Sean pointed to the back of the room and called them fake news, which is pathetic on two fronts: one) they aren’t and he is, and two) he’s part of the group (supposedly) that he is calling fake.

Then there’s the speculation as to who will run for president in 2020. This looked at both parties. Interesting. First we had to go through all the old war horses, and then all the folks who said they aren’t running who are. Two people stood out to me: Kristen Gillibrand and Beto O’Rourke.  Each on opposite ends of the reasoning. Chris Mathews said of Gillibrand, “Just what the Democrats want a Wall Street lawyer.” He was being sarcastic. I think Gillibrand ended any hopes she had by the way she treated Al Franken. Then there’s Beto. I think he isn’t seasoned enough, but what do I know? The point that someone made on the show, was that Beto is the kind of candidate that fires the imagination. He’s got the magic, like Jack Kennedy had. No one else in the field of candidates has that.

Then there was some talk about what’s in store for the current president in this year. Three things kept coming up:

Nancy Pelosi,

The Investigations,

He doesn’t really want to be president but he can’t let go and he’s doing a terrible job.

Let’s look at the last point first, which is: he didn’t expect to win, and when he did he didn’t know what to do.

Then he started getting investigated. The news organizations don’t even try to list all the possible investigations, rather they group them under categories. At last count there were 85 possible investigations grouped in six or seven major areas. The FBI. The Special Counsel, The New York States Attorney’s office, The Federal District of New York, and Three committees in the House of Representatives are, or will be, investigating Trump and his associates. Not bad for only two years in office!

One commentator said he can’t quit because he’d be indicted and fighting off going to prison. I hope that everyone of these groups nails him and gives him no deal.

Then there are all the sleazy people around him and all their crimes and unethical behavior. I hope they too get tarred and feathered and sent to jail.

The most recent one is the guy who won the race for senator in Missouri. He hasn’t even been sworn in and he’s already in trouble. The picture of him with Trump shows a guy with both hands in front of him like he’s trying to stop a freight train. Apparently, he ran for AG in the state, got the job and immediately started running for senate. It was so bad and confusing that folks didn’t know whom to talk to: his AG staff or his re-election campaign, because they were all in the same office space. 

And then there’s the cheating, the bending of rules, the ignoring of rules, ethics and morality. People are starting to wake up to the fact that Wilbur Ross is trying to rig the census to better reflect Republicans than all the people in the country. Not only has he lied about this, and he and Jeff Sessions refused to get better data cheaper; it’s also unconstitutional what he is trying to do. Undaunted he is trying to plow ahead. Whether that train wreck can be stopped in time is anyone’s guess. 

I was tangentially involved in the 1980 Census and it takes a lot of time, planning, dedication and effort. Now when you have a cabinet secretary who has this as part of his mandate trying to make a mockery of it, well it’s hard to know what will happen, but I doubt it will be good.

To review:

Trump is not a businessman. He’s a con man. Every deal he’s done he’s lied about it. His dad bailed him out over and over again, and still he managed to lose all that money. He was then bailed out by Russians. Russian oligarchs looking to launder their ill gotten gains through him. He is owned by Putin. He does Vlad’s bidding. Time and time again we’ve seen it. He is aided and abetted by a group of billionaires here, who control most of the media and many of the state legislatures and much of the capital and production in this country. They have bought the Republican party. They are now greedily grabbing as much as they can and doing everything they can to deny people justice and democracy. 

There are a few beacons of hope, but the biggest thing is to elect new people at every level of government to stem this tide of abuse.

Remember the good old days when a bought politician used to try and hide the fact  that they were bought?

Did you hear Sarah Wannabe Sanders? Or the Mick Mulvaney? They were whining, “If only Nancy Pelosi was in town we could make a deal.” Blubber blubber, toil and trouble.
Hey Mick, Hey Sarah, FYI Paul Ryan is Speaker of the House. Make your deal with him.
Oh? What? He left town? Too bad, so sad. What’s that? “If only Nancy Pelosi hadn’t left town you could make a deal.” Oh. I see.
Hey, here’s a little sumptin’ sumptin’ from Speaker Pelosi’s office (that is still open – by the way. You know “Open” as in “Open for Business.”) This little Sumptin’ is called “a statement.” It comes from her chief of staff. Let me read it to you, you might be interested. “We have not heard from the White House since December 11th.”
Hum, what does this tell me?
1. You know how to contact Nancy Pelosi.
2. You haven’t contacted Nancy Pelosi since December 11th.
Oh wait, let me do some calculating, if I subtract today’s date from 11 why that was over two weeks ago!
Let me remember – Nancy Pelosi was in Washington then.
So let me conclude that if you had wanted to make a deal with Nancy Pelosi you could have done so over two weeks ago! But you didn’t. Hey, wait a minute, what kind of a scam are you trying to pull? This reminds me of the photo op Paul Ryan did where he got a bunch of Republican buds to sit on one side of a table to show “they were ready to work” but there was no one on the other side of the table. The Democrats weren’t there for the glorious photograph. Oh snap, he didn’t tell them about it.
In this case the White House doesn’t even have that excuse because they’ve contacted Peolosi’s office before, so they know how to do it. They didn’t contact her office so therefore they have no real interest in doing a deal.
The funniest thing about this is Pelosi is not the Speaker! Yet, she has this much power without being Speaker. Imagine what will happen when she takes control?

In other hysterical things. The Trump Administration is cracking down on Welfare Dads. You know those lazy good for nuthin’ men who sit around waiting for their food stamps so they can eat. Not anymore. No sir, Trump is cutting back. No longer will the group that uses SNAP coupons the most be able to get them so easily – white men. Yup, White men use SNAP more than any other group. Wait a second? Isn’t that the group that overwhelmingly voted for Trump? Yeah, you got a problem with that? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you, in this case that hand is slapping you in the face.

In other really really funny stuff the president has threatened to shut off the southern border completely. I don’t know about you, but I envision Trump at a giant wheel valve that he is turning that lowers a gate into a big culvert shutting off it’s flow. I mean, isn’t that the way it works? It’s a big valve right? No? It’s a giant switch. Like in the Frankenstein movies? A huge double pole, double throw knife blade job that sparks and lightning bolts shoot out of as it arcs to make or break a connection. Yeah, that’s it. All trump has to do is jump up, place both feet on either side of the switch, grab the giant knob and yank down on it and magically the border will be closed. (Simultaneously Jimi’s version of Bob’s song “All along the Watch Tower” will play. “Click, Bang, What a hang …” whoops different song.) Wah – Wah – wah – wah “But you and I are not like that. Said the …”

I think we need to have a poster of Nancy dressed as Ben Hur with six white stallions charging as she stands in the chariot, whip in hand, to save the day. Mick and Sarah being crushed under the hooves. Lightning bolts and storm clouds behind her. Mountains riven apart with stormy boiling waters flowing down. Yeah.

The most interesting combination in Washington is Pelosi and Cortez.
Here we have the most seasoned legislator and the youngest woman to ever serve in Congress.
Which one will Donnie have more success with?
A woman that has proven to be the most effective Speaker of the House in decades
or
a former bartender from New York?

I say neither. Personally, I think it will be a case of “slice and dice.”
He will fail miserably with both.

He ran on building the wall.
Those in the real world knew what he was saying was silly,
and it still is.
Just ask the starving white men waiting for food stamps.
Oh, It’s Pelosi and the Dems fault? Got it.

Here’s what I think Schumer ought to do. He should tell Donald that they’ve caved on the wall, that the bill he as president is about to sign has the funding for his wall in it. Listen, Donald is an idiot. He doesn’t read. All you need to do to convince him is to go on Fox and Friends and tell Steve Ducey that the funding for the wall is in the bill. No one reads it. They won’t know. I think they ought to add a provision like “The wall must be made of Flubber. Only genuine American Flubber may be used. None of that crap from China.” Then they ought to take a contingent somewhere and show them a wall being built, or a dam, doesn’t matter. Show them bricks and concrete, tell then they are on the border. The only way they’ll know where they are is if you let them take pictures with their iPhones, which will tell them they are in Newark or Spokane. So no photos other than by a designated rep.
Gotta have a ribbon cutting picture. Of course. Maybe, the pic should be in the National Park with the big stone towers behind. Yeah, it was good enough for the old western movies, it’s good enough for a ribbon cutting. Tell ‘em the border is just south of where they are standing, like six hundred miles south, but south.

Oh man. It’s going to be great. It will be the best wall. Made with steel slats. Each slat will have a stencil on it either saying “Gift of Mexico” or “Given by John Douchebag via GoFundMe” or whomever donated for the slat. Gotta go price steel slats. Inquiring minds want to know. I think we can get a good deal on slats from China, some may give off a hint of radioactivity, but the price can’t be beat.

The other day a buddy of mine sent me a joke about what he claimed was his new Dodge truck. It supposedly had an electronic assistant that would answer voice commands. After demonstrating how smart and helpful it was my friend supposedly jammed his finger and screamed, “You fucking bitch!” to which the personal assistant asked, “Which one: Nancy or Hillary?” Hysterical, right?

Hey, I got a few to add:

Donald Trump says there was no collusion with Russia. yet his campaign manager was found guilty about lying to the FBI about involvement with Russians. No? Ukrainians – same thing. Hysterical, am I right? Then there’s Erik Prince. He just happened to go to those beautiful remote islands off the coast of Africa and he happened to bump into a high level Russian who just happened to be there, and they didn’t have a meeting really. They just talked in a bar, pure coincidence. Hysterical, who would be dumb enough to believe that? Then there’s Carter Page. He’s the dufus who just happened to be in Russia having meetings or conferences or something with high level Russians, or so he claimed until he didn’t. But the high level Russians were caught on tape saying what a fool Page was and it turned out they were spies and one of them spent time in the pokie for his part in all this. God, hysterical. Then there’s Michael Flynn, Trump’s first National Security Advisor, who was simultaneously a agent for a foreign government. Somehow that slipped his mind when he filled out his forms that ask, “Are you an agent of a foreign government?” He was in Russia giving a speech. He sat next to Putin. He said he didn’t get paid. The speaker bureau got paid. Funny, right? A speaker bureau gets money from Russia and Flynn gets zero. Ha ha, oh well yeah, his firm got money and they paid him but so what? OMG, hold me back, this is sooo funny. Then there’s Don Jr. Everyone knows he doesn’t do anything without telling Daddy. Well, maybe he didn’t mention he was banging that Latino woman while married, but that’s okay because dad does it too, right? So little Donnie has a meeting with a bunch of Russians. It’s such a nothing meeting that he fails to remember much about it when the FBI asks or to tell Dad. Except he did make a call to a blocked cell phone number right after the meeting, and dad happens, by pure coincidence to have a cell phone with a blocked number. I mean, what are the chances? Then there’s all that stuff in the Steele Dossier, that’s been shown to be true, and there are somethings alleged but not proven, but nothing has been shown to be false. Funny stuff like Michael Cohen went to Prague to pay off the Russian hackers that disrupted the Dems and Hillary, Remember her, the aforementioned bitch? Except Mikie has never been to Prague or for that matter the Czech Republic. He said so. He said a lot of stuff that he’s admitted he lied about. In fact, he’s been found guilty or I should say pled guilty to just that kind of thing. Oh but here’s the funny part. His cell phone was recorded as bouncing off towers in Prague about the time Steele said Cohen was in Prague paying off Russian hackers. This is hysterically funny because, if true, it would show a direct link between the Trump campaign and Russians trying to influence the 2016 election. But even if that were true, Trump says he had no knowledge. Remember, nothing goes on in the Trump organization without Don Sr. knowing about it. Funny right?

Oh and then there’s my buddy who sends out a link to a You Tube video showing Nigel Farage being all tough and in the face of some British politician. Wow. This is the guy who thought Brexit was a brilliant economic strategy for Britain. He is also the guy who when descending the steps of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London couldn’t remember why he had been in there in the first place. I mean, the fact that Julian Assange came out with some emails on the Dems a few days later had nothing to do with “Mr. Trump is a Silver Backed Gorilla” man, right?

Now we get to the really really funny stuff. It has come out that Mark Burnett, the guy who put The Apprentice on the air might have been in some small way responsible for Trump becoming president. You see, at the time The Apprentice started it is now alleged that Trump was a washed up fourth rate real estate developer in New York. This is based on evidence. Burnett took the turd called Trump and burnished it for TV. People started to believe he was a brilliant business man. I should clarify – people outside of the New York real estate world started to believe. Bankers wouldn’t lend him money. Why? This is really funny. He didn’t pay them back! In fact, in his claimed best selling book “The Art of the Deal” he alludes to a technique to getting rich – don’t pay people. He did it to a bunch of illegal Pollacks that busted their humps to tear down the old Bonwit Teller building so he could put up his tower. When they took him to court, he threatened to deport them. That’s gratitude for you. That’s the Art of the Deal! btw Michelle Obama has sold more books in two weeks than Trump sold in ten years, but who’s counting.

I’ve read The Art of The Deal. There are two things I remember Trump saying he did that made him a business genius: 1) He refurbished Wolman Skating Rink in Central Park, and 2) he used high quality bronze on the edges of his escalators in Trump Tower or his casino or somewhere. Brilliant!

I’ve been to Wolman Skating Rink. I saw Led Zeppelin there. It was the summertime and I don’t remember any problem with the rink, but Donnie does. He got new concrete poured when the city couldn’t figure out how to do it, or so he claims. Maybe, nothing was wrong with the concrete? Just sayin’ You know like when wonderkin Paulie Ryan broke into a homeless shelter to wash already clean pots for a photo op? (I mean, come on, you didn’t expect him to go in there when there were homeless people there did you?)

Do you know how hard it is to get someone to pour concrete in New York?

Lemme give you a blow by blow:

Ring-ring.

“Hello?”

“Do you pour concrete?”

“Yeah.”

“Can you pour concrete on a skating rink?”

“Yeah.”

Done.

If that is Trump’s claim to business acumen, and it is, then I’m a friggin’ business savant. I mean I not only got concrete poured (for a swimming pool) but also got the walls done in gunite (that’s high pressure squirted concrete.) Okay, I didn’t have the edges of the steps done in bronze, but I put in the best aluminum stairs you can find. (Maybe, not. I don’t know. But that doesn’t stop me from claiming that they are! That’s the Trump way! Woot woot.)

Oh man. Funny right?

Hey listen, did you hear the one about the EPA chief tearing up the regulation that one of the biggest polluters in the country, a coal fired plant in Texas was told they didn’t have to put in those scrubbers? So what if 137 people’s deaths were directly attributed to that plant’s emissions? Ha. Hilarious.

Now? Did you hear about the pesticide we are still using that is so toxic people exposed to it vomit and convulse? Oh boy. Thank god Scott Pruit jetted in on a chartered jet in the nick of time to tell Dow Chemical “pesticide shemisticide – we’re cool.” Otherwise, those I’m supposing illegal Democratic voting immigrants wouldn’t be faking it in the middle of those fields.

Hey, and get this. This is really hysterical. For the few jobs the Trump administration is trying to fill, and there aren’t many, because they leave most vacant, they can’t find people to do them.

Well, that’s not entirely true. They find people to be “acting” as in “acting Attorney General” or “acting Secretary of Defense.”

I wonder if that is like the ads on television that start off with “I’m not a real doctor, but I play one on TV.”

Try this on for size, “I’m not a real Secretary of Defense. I’m just acting.” Funny, right? The largest best trained fighting force in the world has a guy who is good at getting … wait for it … defense contracts for whomever he is working for. Is he like Mikey Flynn and really working for someone else and not the American people? What if a real crisis happens? You know like White House Down type thing and this good at getting contracts guy has to act like he knows what he’s doing? Oh man, that will be unbelievable. Won’t it?

Hey speaking of the acting Attorney General did you hear the one about him lying on his resume? Yeah, he’s not what he claims to be. Oh man, funny! But who better to head up the Department of Justice than a liar? Works for me.

Oh then there’s the education secretary Betsy DeVos, sister of Erik Prince, turns out she’s under five investigations? Wow, what a scream.

Hey, in less than a week Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker of the House. Did you see the one of her in the White House? Trumpie was going on and on about how he had the votes in the House to pass his stupid wall bill and Nancy said, “You don’t have the votes.” He said, “I do.” Then Pelosi said (basically) “Bring it.”

Guess what? Trump looked down at his shoes, kicked sand on them and said (basically) “I could if I wanted to.” Pelosi said again, “Bring it.”

Trumpie kept dawdling. He looked at Schumer and said, “It’s Chuck’s fault. I don’t have the votes in the Senate. No point in passing it in the House.”

What a pussy. He’s Putin’s bitch and Nancy’s pussy (which is a mixed metaphor if I ever heard one.)

Day 720 December 27, 2018       871 Days to Go

I remember being in a 16 week training class. We were halfway through and one of the principals of the company leading the training asked how it was going. It had been a rough few weeks and many in the class opened up about what they thought was wrong. It got so bad that the guy finally laughed and said as the onslaught continued, “You aren’t telling me anything new, I’m just stroke counting.”

And so it is with Donald Trump, there’s nothing new; we are just stroke counting. 

Is he a liar? Yes.

Is he obstructing justice? It is decidedly so.

Is he profiting personally from being in office? Yes.

Is he committing crimes? Yes, openly.

There really is nothing new to report, just that same old stuff in a different form.

Earlier these last two months the narrative seemed to be that people were surprised that he was openly committing crimes, that he was selling out the country, that he found more in common with strongmen than democracies and our allies, that he’s a terrible business man and criminal, that he can’t negotiate well in anything he does…But that narrative is now changing.

Now we are hearing from responsible people that he is a danger to the country.

To which I say, “Duh.”

And as far as all the earlier stuff I say we knew all that before he took office.

Yet. Some are still sending me jokes about Hillary or Nancy being bitches or Obama being a terrible president. Yet, here we have wonder boy Ryan on his way out trying one last time to screw over the people on Social Security or Senator Mike Enzi from a state that doesn’t have as many people in it as a county in California holding up a bill to provide for Veterans because it would cost seven billion over ten years; yet he had no problem passing a 771 billion dollar bill for defense contractors. 

The only reason Republicans are still in power is because they cheat. They don’t give a damn about average folks. They all seem to be on the take. Yes. I know. Dems do it too is the argument. Yeah? Not like Trump, or any of the – how many is it now that have resigned, been indicted, fired or left this administration? 35? 55? I forget. 

Compare that to the Obama administration. What was their number? Zero. (I’m sure we can dig up one or two. But no one in his cabinet was dead set on destroying the agency he or she was running. Can you name anyone in the current cabinet who is not?)

I just hope that justice will be served and the whole bunch will be hauled off in chains. Nice chains, beautiful chains, fake diamond studded or gold painted, but chains none the less.

Day 717

Day 717 Monday December 24, 2018   874 Days to Go

It’s been ten days since I last wrote, which is a good thing in that it is easier to add and subtract ten from my counts up and down than it is to do other numbers, and given my current state of health I am thankful for that. My health? Glad you asked, let me go into long detail. I got sick in Mexico with a scratchy throat, which moved into my chest and sinuses and has left me weak. I’m on my second round of antibiotics, which is typical for me to shake these things. I still have a wracking cough to bring up phlegm and am in a weaken state, but I’m losing weight! I attribute this to not drinking due to the antibiotics. However, I’ve been helping with the Christmas cookie making, and sampling, which is starting to reverse the weight loss gains. (Hum, that seems an odd turn of phrase.) 

Okay, before we get into it, let me give you my impressions of my trip to Mexico in a few concise examples:

Shelby and I went down a few days early, before the archaeological trip got started. She got food market tours and cooking classes. Our tour guide, Juan Carlos, is a magician at arranging things and making them work out. Shelby got a little taste of David Stuart and the rocks. Not her thing, but she got to see what it’s all about.

Speaking of David, our group was in the National Archaeological Museum and David was in front of a stella (those vertical rock slabs the Mayans carved glyphs in) and started talking. I like to record what David says and came a few seconds late to what he mini-lecture. I asked him if he’d mind reading the glyphs again. He looked at me and said, “In what language?”

I shrugged as if to say – Dealer’s Choice.

He continued, “Mayan or English?”

I demurred.

He then read the glyphs in Mayan. No stopping, no hesitation, just boom – boom – boom.

Then he went back to the beginning and read them in English.

It reminded me of watching Horowitz play the piano, or his producer and my friend Jack Pfieffer play. Both did it so easily and effortlessly. They made me think I could do it too.

I was in a museum with Shelby a day or so before and tried to explain to her some of the Mayan things we were seeing. I discovered how little I could actually say about what we were seeing, other than to say, “This is a famous lintel” (or stella, or glyph, or whatever.) It was humbling, but also thrilling, to realize what I really knew and what I didn’t. 

There are other people who can read glyphs. I am probably at a first grade level. Others can sound out and tell you what the passage generally means, but I’ve never heard anyone just read ‘em. David once said there are six people in the world that do what he does, and I’ve met most of them. They are all nice folks. Some are still in that one-upsmanship mode. David is way beyond that. 

It’s similar to computer geeks. I’ve met some of the best programmers in the world. When you are at the top, you no longer play those bait and switch tech games, because you no longer have to prove yourself. 

It’s a pleasure to watch and listen to a person at the top of their game in the prime of their life.

Okay, so we were in Teotihuacan, the necropolis north of Mexico City, that has The Pyramid of the Sun, and the Moon, and many other temples and pyramids on its grounds, including The Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent, which is the third largest pyramid there. A decade or more back the square around the pyramid filled with water and then drained through a 30 inch hole that opened up in front of the pyramid. An archaeologist was lowered through the opening, which was a man made culvert, and discovered a tunnel, which went right to the middle of the pyramid. The hole he was lowered through was an air shaft. It took them years to clear all the mud and debris.  They discovered thousands of artifacts. The tunnel’s ceiling had been plastered with black plaster and mica to look like the night sky. Not many people get to go into the tunnel, but we were with David, so natch, we get to go.

At one point you have to bend over and hunch down. Ann Stuart, David’s sister and tour organizer extraordinaire was behind me. We discussed that it seemed a good time to do a little yoga. I stood on one foot, extended the other behind me and place both arms extended in front of me like I was holding a beach ball. I stated the name of the pose by saying, “Yeah, how about a little Warrior III.” To which Ann said, “I didn’t know you were a yogi.” (Oh man, my yoga instructor will have a big smile when I tell him this story.)

Speaking of Ann, we were touring a church. I was weak from being sick and sat in a pew. I was seated by the left side and there was a little confessional booth near by. I said to Ann, “Hey, I’ll take your confession, if you like.” Without skipping a beat she shot back, “We don’t have time for that!” 

Okay, so there’s the impressions of Mexico City and the tour. Now onto the usual.

Fortunately, not much has gone on. NOT! But okay, if you’ve been reading my screeds for the last 874 days you know that what has happened in the last month is not surprising. It’s pretty obvious. Before the 2016 election, in October of that year, Slate magazine ran an article that said servers in Trump Tower, registered to the Trump organization were talking to servers in a Russian bank, and that there was a lot of traffic on those servers before each Republican primary and before the Republican Convention. As we learned Russian banks aren’t like  banks in other countries. They are extensions to the government and the criminal enterprise of the people in charge of the government. This particular bank, Alfa-Bank, is linked directly to Putin and to money laundering in Cyprus. Wilbur Ross, our Secretary of Commerce, was a VP at the Cyprus bank, and the guy who is now in charge of the criminal division of the FBI, was the lawyer hired by Alfa-Bank to clean up its image at some point.

What the Trump Organization and Alfa-Bank were doing has never been explained. I’ve speculated, but we haven’t really known.

This was the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Trump and Russia. The events of the past month have made some wonder if the Trump organization isn’t so far in hock to the Russians that they are really owned by them and by that I mean owned by Putin. Trump certainly seems to be (owned by Putin). 

Then we get to the crazy for the month:

– Trump says he’ll own the shutdown, them blames the Dems for it.

– He tweets that he is pulling the troops out of Syria.

Okay, let’s stop there and review, analyze, and speculate.

John  Heilemann commented on Trump’s negotiating ability, saying that Trump is the kind of poker player that turns up all his cards and tries to bluff. I think this is an apt metaphor for everything Trump. He commits his crimes openly, and then says he didn’t do it, or if he did it wasn’t a crime, or if it was its no big deal because its a little crime and everybody does it when, in fact, no one else does it and it is a big crime.

As to the tweeting about pulling the troops out. Why are people making a big deal about this? Did the military get an order? No. I would advise saying nothing if I were in the military and distracting the prez with a new thing, you know, like a helicopter that shoots missiles or flames or laser beams.

As to the shutdown? Third time this year. What does that tell us? Wonder boy Paul Ryan and turtle Mitch McConnell can’t govern to save their asses. 

As Bill Clinton said way back when he was campaigning for Hillary, “The biggest complaint the Republicans have about us (the Democrats) is that we don’t clean up their messes fast enough.”

As for Trump and the right right wing of the Republican party, well they got what they wanted. It’s a dream come true. They shut down the government over their principles! No Wall, No Government! Stand tough. Fight for what you believe in! Right on!

I go back to what Nancy Pelosi told Trump, “You don’t have the votes.”

Or what Barrack told the Republicans gathered in Baltimore with Ryan’s first budget, “You can’t govern from this!”

Here’s the thing. It’s one thing to say what you are going to do when faced with a situation; it’s another when you are faced with that situation. This is especially true when your premise is based on BS. 

What happened to the terrorists in the caravan? When those folks got to the border all there were were mothers and babies and people wanting a better life. What happened to the Middle Eastern Muslims embedded in the caravan, or the diseased folks coming to infect us? Did they melt away like Frosty the Snowman? No. They never existed.

What about the great Trump economy? You know, the raging stock market and all that? Obama’s economy took two years for Trump to wreak, but he did it! All the gains made in the last year have been wiped out and we are just beginning the descent. Where will we be in two years when Trump leaves office? 

Of course, maybe before then we’ll see him arrested and hauled off in chains, but then we’d have that sanctimonious liar, Pence, to deal with. Pence reminds me of the joke about Agnew as supposedly told by Nixon. The threat from Nixon to Congress, “If you don’t pass my legislation, I’ll shoot myself.” 

Just to be perfectly clear, that would mean Agnew would become President and that was thought by many to be worse than Nixon. I have to wonder what happened to all those Agnew supporters? They didn’t believe he was guilty. That he had been railroaded. That it was only a minor mistake on his taxes. They conveniently forgot about the forty page memo that outlined his bribery and extortion crimes in detail.

History has a strange way of repeating itself.

As person after person is indicted, forced to quit, or turns on Trump you have to wonder how long the supporters can cling to their dashed hopes and dreams that this man and his cabals of crooks and cronies are going to help them.
