Day 1145 Flavor Flay is Out

What? Me Worry?

Saturday March 7, 2020

239 Days until the election on November 3rd

319 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

Yup. That’s right. Shockingly, Flavor Flay is no longer part of Public Enemy.

Apparently, he tried to shake down the Bernie Campaign and Chuckie D had had enough.

I think this is bigger than who does Meghan Thee Stallion’s hair.

The cover of Rolling Stone had SZY on the cover. Three black women done up in black  leather (or vinyl). Embellished with belts, buckles, and studs. The story inside revealed that one of these women is SZY. The other two? Not mentioned. Must be the dancers.

What’s with the single singer black women and two dancers? How many have I seen in the last year? If they are on SNL they appear in some wacky costume for song #1 and then look more regular for song #2. (Oh, I already bitched about this? Sorry. Not sorry.)

In other singing news The Voice is really good this year.

Also, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist on CBS is excellent. People sing and only Zoey can hear them. Big numbers, great stuff. The mom from Gilmore Girls is in it. She’s Zoey’s boss.

Ozzy cancelled his North American tour due to ill health. He didn’t look good at an awards show. Came out with a cane. Didn’t say anything. His wife read the award. Somehow having the lead singer of Black Sabbath hobbling around with a cane doesn’t seem … I dunno. It’s weird.

Meanwhile, looks like we are going to have an investigation of Biden and his son. I’m all for it. It will be fun to see them call witnesses, like Ivanka and Don Jr. So they can be asked about their dealings.

Okay, it’s stupid. But let’s do it anyway.

What else? The right has lost its mind because Schumer called out two Supreme Court justices for their possible votes on an abortion ban case. Oh no! Someone on the “not crazed alt right” has spoken up. Gee, where was the outrage when Trump was doing it? Or Roger Stone? Or any of the Republican Senators and Congressmen who have said and done mean nasty crazed things? Or the fact that Clarence Thomas’ wife is helping Trump create an enemies list? Why the silence with them?

Elizabeth Warren has dropped out. Why? She didn’t get the support she had hoped for. What did she expect? I mean she’s smart, competent, accomplished and – oh yeah – a woman.

In six months I’ll be qualified to make a legitimate run for President. I’m white, male, and soon to be age appropriate.

My wife has reminded me that if I seek political office I will be doing it with my next wife. I wonder if Romney still has those binders full of women?

I understand once you are president you can steal as much as you want, take huge gobs of money from corporations. Say crazed things – everyday. Remember the good old days? You know, when presidents were presidential? Eisenhower was the last Republican to be presidential for their party. Who was it for the Dems? Kennedy? No, Obama. That’s right. Remember him? Nice guy. Smart. (Except he thought the Republicans wanted to govern and would help him – big mistake. Oh well.)

There’s a lot to catch up on, but frankly I don’t have the time.

Will keep you informed as best I can.

Two people have demanded to be put on the list of my “No Support/Just Judgement” tee shirt from the George Jefferson School of Motivation.

Heard what I thought were Canadian Geese migrating. (Do they do that anymore? Or do they just hang out at golf courses and strip mall grass plots?) It wasn’t. It was the Morning Doves waking up. I saw the Wolf Moon, Isn’t that what they are calling it? Almost as bright as my neighbors back deck LED light.

Day 1140 Party? Bitch? Be Positive?

March 2, 2020 by Rick Kinnaird 1 Comment

Day 1140

Monday March 2, 2020

244 Days until the election on November 3rd

324 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

Okay, Corona virus is here and we’re all gonna die – get over it.

(Maybe not from Corona Virus, but eventually, is my point.)

What to do?

Party? Bitch? Be Positive?

I tell you what. There is way too much positivity in those exercise and self help videos. I heard a lady comic the other day who was saying she enjoys a two star experience. Yeah.

My wife has a tee shirt that says, “No Judgement / Just Support.”

I want one that says, “No Support / Just Judgement.” Probably on the back it should say, “The George Jefferson School of Motivation.” But then someone would ask me who George Jefferson is and I’d have to explain and they wouldn’t get it. …

As far as partying goes. Eh. It’s like “hanging out.” WTF does that mean? “Can I come over and sit on your sofa?” I dunno.

Rolling Stone had an article on members of bands they’d like to see reunite. Okay, the first few I knew, then it got weird. Girl bands and metal bands that frankly – well never mind – I hope they get together and party on.

And what is with the weird song acts? If it’s a solo black woman she has to have a dancer on either side doing god knows what. If it’s a black male then you have goofy dancing that has nothing to do with anything. I guess it’s the Kayne effect. Better than having the woman in tight and revealing clothing rubbing up against them. In the age of Me Too that is so passé. (or should I say, “Non Courant”?)

The big dance numbers all seem to be modeled after Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation,” I mean it’s great to watch a bunch of people all stepping together, but after how many acts do you kind of know what’s happening?

I went to McDonald’s. It’s “Free McMuffin Monday.” (I don’t know why they don’t call it “Screw Wendy’s New Breakfast Menu Monday” but they don’t.) Turns out only the first McMuffin is free. I advised my father-in-law to pretend he didn’t know who his wife was and let her order her own damn McMuffin. (You save like three dollars and fifty nine cents.*)

*pro-tip

Meanwhile the Corona Virus is spreading in the U.S. Mike better get that prayer circle going. Yesterday there were reports of people in Sam’s where the lines were backed up to the far back of the store – every register.

Seems people aren’t believing the president. I’m shocked.

Yo Yo Yo – Dead Meat  “Hey! Yo! Good carrion over here! Come and get it.”

Imagine if we had a good health care system in this country. (I know it’s hard to imagine, but try.) Imagine knowing that the sick were being taken care of. Imagine knowing that if you got sick there would be resources to take care of you. Now? Hey. Good luck. Pray.

Day 1139 Who Ya Gonna Pick?

March 1, 2020 by Rick Kinnaird Leave a Comment

Day 1139 Who Ya Gonna Pick?

Sunday March 1, 2020

245 Days until the election on November 3rd

325 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

Biden won South Carolina and Bernie won all the stuff before that except one, and Pete took that. After Super Tuesday we’ll know who’s really left in the race.

Then the question will be who’s the VP pick?

Biden won’t take VP again. Would Bernie? Biden/Bernie? I don’t know.

What about Biden/Warren?

Biden/Pete?

Biden/Amy?

Biden/Bloomberg?

Biden/Steyer?

And we could do this with Bernie:

Bernie/Warren,Pete,Amy,Bloomberg,Steyer.

I don’t know. I’d love for Warren to be on the ticket. I went canvassing for her yesterday. Sixty-one houses. Most not home or undecided. One was for Warren. One said she’d vote for Warren because “we were the only ones that made the effort.” One asked if Warren was a Democrat. One guy came out on his porch to yell that he didn’t want any, which was nice of him because it saved me the walk up the hill and besides he’s an Alabama fan so there was no hope anyway. (Not that I’m judgmental or anything.)

I’m hoping Warren does really well on Super Tuesday, but for whatever reason she hasn’t caught on. She did a great bit with Stephen Colbert this past Wednesday. (I think it was Wednesday. She’s not listed in the info. Better to google it.)

In other news the U.S. has recorded it’s first death from coronavirus. If he president is right we should see the virus influence go down. Of course the president is never right so we’ll see the rate of infection and the number of deaths in the U.S. go up. Don’t you feel comforted that rather than prepare for the virus and its spread the president wasted that precious time denying that it was coming here? Or do you feel better that he started his presidency off by getting rid of the very team you need for such things?

Let’s not forget that the president is a con-man, a liar, and is totally incompetent. The corona virus doesn’t know or care. Tweet away big boy. Tweet away.

Mike? Have you called for a prayer circle? Are you morally opposed to viruses?

Do we have the best people on this thing?

Oh we got no one on it because it’s going away by miracle? Oh. Okay.

Day 1138 Leap Day

Saturday February 29, 2020

246 Days until the election on November 3rd

326 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

Camel
Petra
Jordan

A person whom I really don’t know, but comments frequently about my screeds on facebook said of my screed where I asked if the president was gay because his pink eyes and lips matched his pink tie said that it was dumb and then said goodbye. I don’t know if that means he is done commenting or if he has flipped a switch on facebook so he doesn’t have to see my screeds. I find it interesting that a dyed in the wool Trumper doesn’t see the humor in a far right smear tactic used as a humorous piece. There are two varieties of this smear. One is a Trump favorite ploy, “I don’t know but a lot of people are saying …” and the other is “I don’t have a dog in this fight …” In the first instance no one is saying whatever it is (except Alex jones at InfoWars and Rush Limbaugh and Anne Coulter and Tucker Carlson.) In the second case I’ve never seen anyone lead off with that dog comment that doesn’t definitely have a dog in the fight.

But that isn’t what I want to tell you about today. It being leap day I think it important to tell you what the longest year on record is. Do you know what it is? I know the last few years have seemed like the longest years on record but they aren’t. The longest year on record is 1972.

It was a leap year – yes. But did you know that the Earth is slowing down? Every so often the National Observatory in Washington DC has to add a second to the year to make up for the Earth’s slowing down. I assume there are still people working there, but that may not be the case what with the cutbacks and all. In some years a second has to be added to the official time to make up for the fact (FACT! OMG! Kill it.) that the Earth is slowing down. That second is called “a Leap Second.” I do not know to which minute or hour it is added, but it is added.

However, in 1972 they did not add just a Leap Second, but two! Two Leap Seconds! Making 1972 the longest year in recorded history.

The woman who told me this at my tour of The National Observatory was so excited that the only thing I could think of was “Honey, you need to get out more.” (Maybe, shake them pocket protectors?)

Another thought, and this is unrelated, is that there was a piece awhile back about a guy on Fox News who said that germs weren’t real because you can’t see them, and therefore he did not wash his hands after using the bathroom. The report which was done by Stephen Colbert also said that Trump is a germaphobe. The next picture showed this guy shaking hands with Trump.

Now we turn to the Coronavirus. Mic Mulvaney said this was getting way overblown. He pointed out that SARS and MERS were corona viruses and that not that many people died from it. The press was making too big a deal about this. Only 2% of the people infected died from it – big deal, he said, Turn off the TV for 24 hours.

There was a scientific reporter on last night who said old Mic was right about one thing and dead wrong about another. (Emphasis on “dead.”)

Yes only 2% of the people who get this Coronavirus are dying from it, but we don’t have really good data yet. And yes not that many people died from SARS or MERS, but not that many people were infected. Therefore the total number was low. We know that the total number of people infected from this Coronavirus (labeled CoVid-19) is much higher than previous corona viruses. Therefore the number of deaths will be much higher.

By China reacting as quickly as it did, bought us time. Time to get ready. Instead of getting ready we’ve stuck our heads in the sand. The woman who spoke at the president’s news conference, a scientist, who gave us real facts, has been reassigned.

Then this scientific reporter said something startling. “When one third of our parliament has it we’ll have to shut down that public assembly.”

I have to ask, “What will it take?” What will it take for Trump and the Trumpers to start dealing with facts – real facts, not alternate facts. How long will they explain away deaths? What will they do when a member of their family gets sick? Tell them they’ll be fine? Not to worry?

One of the things we’ll need for this outbreak is respirators. They cost $20-50,000. How many do we have? About one tenth of what is projected we’ll need.

We need a quick and mobile response to wherever the virus has an outbreak. Do we have teams in place? No. Do we have the proper equipment? No. Do we have testing kits? There was a problem, so – no.

Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best. Is what epidemiologists tell us to do.

But that is from scientists and people who have spent their careers studying and working on these kind of things. What do we have? We have Mike Pence. A man whom the CDC had to convince that handing out clean needles to drug addicts was a good idea from a health prospective because he was “morally opposed” to it. Will Mike be morally opposed to testing for this virus? Will he be cowed by the president and not do it for that reason?

Joe Biden said if he was President he’d have sent teams over to China to try and figure out what was going on and to help stop the spread of the virus.

Did Trump do that? No. He’s wishing it away.

Dark days are ahead. And with Trump it’s everyone for themselves. It’s like a zombie apocalypse.

The president isn’t leading. He’s cowering.

God I wonder what those idiots on the couch at Fox and Friends must think when Trump calls in. It seems they shut off their brains.

Seth Myers regularly plays interview with the president. It’s worth watching. If I were going to run a campaign against the president I would just play those clips. He babbles. It’s nonsensical and the reporter has to sit there, I guess, and not break out laughing. Or crying.  Most recently Trump said Elon Mush likes rockets and we have to protect him and his invention. Then he babbled about electricity and protecting Edison and then went on to mention the wheel. It seemed he thought the wheel was invented here in the good olde U – S – of – A!

Funny?

Not anymore. It never really was.

But now people will be dying. Dying because of the likes of Donald Trump, Mike Pence, and Mic Mulvaney who are so ignorant and incompetent that they don’t even have the good sense to stand back and let the people who know what they are doing do their jobs.

Of course, many of the positions have gone unfilled and Trump eliminated all the people that were in the positions of pandemic response. So we are unprepared, understaffed, undersupplied and totally head in the sand. But let’s not talk about it – okay? Because talking about it will make it worse. Right? Am I right?

I mean “Pray the Gay Away” worked so well we can dot he same for the Coronavirus.

Am I right?

OMG!

Day 1137 The Immorality of Health Care

February 28, 2020 by Rick Kinnaird Leave a Comment

Day 1137 The Immorality of Health Care

Friday February 28, 2020

247 Days until the election on November 3rd

327 Days until the Inauguration on January 20, 2021

The other day I was reminded of Mike Pence’s having to be convinced to give clean needles to drug addicts by the CDC. Mike didn’t want to do it because he was “morally opposed” to it. What exactly he was morally opposed to I have no idea. Drug addiction? Clean needles? I don’t know.

This led me to ask myself if the Corona Virus cares what your morality is. I’m betting no. I’m guessing it has no sense of morality. That it just does what it does. If what it does is in conflict with your moral code – so what? It doesn’t know.

If you think our president is going to tweet away this crisis I think you are sadly mistaken. If you think Mike Pence is going to pray it away. You are sadly mistaken. If you think PR releases saying the number of virus cases is going down. You are sadly mistaken. If you think the media: liberal, conservative, Christian, far-right, or Russian reporting on its effect you are sadly mistaken.

The only thing that helps is knowledge and therefore the truth.

If you think Mike Pence or Donald Trump are going to help in the knowledge and truth business then I think you haven’t looked at their records very closely.

What will happen I wonder when  dyed in the wool Trump supporter comes up against the reality of death. Say of a loved one. What will Trump do if someone close to him dies? Like a member of his family? Who is he going to blame?

Another interesting point was raised yesterday. What if you are out in public and you see someone coughing and sneezing? Do you have any assurance that person has seen a doctor? In a society where health care was more readily available you would. Here – no.

So by the time the election rolls around we will know the effect of this virus on the population. We will know how effective Mike Pence and Trump and the rest of his team have been in combatting this virus.

Trump and Rand Paul and Steven Bannon have all been for “shrinking the administrative state.” Trump has cut funding to the CDC and eliminated the pandemic response team. Over 1600 scientists have left the government since Trump came into office. I think he believes he can hire people at the last minute if he needs them. This is not the case. It takes years to develop a research team and response teams. Then you need good leadership. Just ask George W. Bush about his response to Hurricane Katrina.

Compare what Trump has done to date on the Corona Virus to what Obama did with Ebola. Barrack sent teams to Africa, to the source. Joe Biden on the debate stage said that if he was in charge he’d have people over in China, working with the Chinese and monitoring the situation. What are we doing? Appointing a person with a record of hostility to health workers and people in need and who has a fawning allegiance to the president. The president is way over his head and has no idea what to do.

The Observatory in Jantar Mantar, Rahasthan, India

PS The twelve astrological sundials at the observatory in Jantar Mantar, Rahasthan, India. In Indian/Hindu astrology knowing your sun sign is very important. that is knowing the sign of the zodiac which is directly behind the sun when you are born. Each of these sundials point at one of the astrological signs when those signs are at their zenith and have a thirty degree radius to mark the particular exact position of the zodiacal sign at that moment. Very weird.
